Who this Blog is for, What We are Doing & Why

The main purpose of this blog will be to help entrepreneurs who are growing companies between $0 and $5 million in revenue. It is something I have done for years now in my daily life, and its time to make it accessible to others.

There are a few reasons we are focusing on this stage in the journey:

  • I have personally started multiple businesses and have experienced this stage in many different ways. Some of have succeeded with revenues growing into the 8 figures, some failed.
  • I know that it is by far the hardest time you will ever go through as an entrepreneur.
  • There are tons of blogs, podcasts, on books about startups and entrepreneurship but very few that focus on the realities, stresses, challenges, as well as the straight guerrilla tactics you can use when you are in this specific stage. I know because they weren’t there for me when I’ve needed them, and as such I’ve figured most of it out on my own.
  • Every business is different when it comes to raising money, but I’m going to tell it to you straight and challenge conventional wisdom. If you have a unicorn rocket ship on your hands or a business that needs to a ton of cash to grow or capitalize on an imminent opportunity then you probably need to raise. Other than that, I strongly believe that entrepreneurs should do everything they can to grow on their own. Either way, don’t celebrate when you raise money. If you don’t have a business that really truly needed it, you’ll probably regret that you did it at some point. I certainly have.
  • I have multiple friends who ended up losing their companies due to the deals they made with investors. Being true entrepreneurs at heart, most of them have started all over again from scratch. This is incredibly painful to watch.
  • Not every startup is growing or doing well. Some do well at first and then hit a wall. It’s a lonely spot to be and there is a severe lack of help in this area.
  • I’m going to start with very short posts mainly delivered on social media. My time is extremely limited and I’m going to try shit before I invest a bunch of time doing the wrong thing. So we’re going to start by delivering nuggets of value in as many areas as possible and let the market tell me what it wants and adjust.

    You may see a long form post here or there if I need to get into details about specific sales, marketing, software development, culture building, or any other relevant early stage tactics that are really damn good and need to be discussed.

    You also learn a lot about other aspects of life when running and growing companies. Family, marriage, parenthood, and friendships are all impacted. It’s part of the deal. So we will talk about that too and wax philosophical from time to time.

    We’ll know we are going in the right direction by the feedback we receive. The goal is to provide value and help people as much as possible on their journey.
